WhatsApp is
getting ready to roll out an update that makes chatting more interactive by
letting users play videos in a small pop-up window while they keep their
conversations going. This new function, not yet available to everyone, is
expected to be introduced soon. Early previews of how it looks have already
been shared.
Similar to
features found in apps such as TikTok, this update will allow iPhone owners to
watch a video in a small, resizable window on their screen. This window can be
moved around, letting them use other apps without pausing the video. This
flexibility greatly improves multitasking capabilities.
This concept
of a video playing in a floating window, while not novel, expands WhatsApp's
current capabilities. Previously, WhatsApp users could only watch videos in
this compact view when the videos were shared links from platforms like
Instagram or YouTube. These videos would pop up over the chat, so users didn't
have to stop their conversation to watch.
The novelty
here is that WhatsApp is extending this functionality to videos sent directly
within messages by contacts. This means any video shared from a friend's photo
library can be watched without leaving the chat, blending video watching and
texting into a smooth, unified experience.
For now,
this Picture-in-Picture (PiP) feature, allowing you to watch videos in a
movable mini window, is exclusive to WhatsApp. This is slated to change,
broadening the feature's accessibility.
Currently in
its testing phase, specifically in a WhatsApp beta version for iPhones named
24.7.10.23, this anticipated feature is drawing attention. Android users eager
to access this functionality will need to wait a bit longer for an official
release to enjoy watching videos in PiP mode while using WhatsApp.
