Historically, Motorola enjoyed times when its sales were stronger, but
it seems like it's getting ready for a comeback. Quietly, the company has been
releasing really good smartphones lately, and they're priced more affordably
than before.
The company has just launched the Motorola Edge 50 Pro, making its debut
in India with much celebration, unlike a quiet introduction. This approach
reflects the company's ambitions for this version, leaving what that implies up
to individual interpretation. This is an overview of the detailed Motorola Edge
50 Pro.
This smartphone features a choice of back cover in either a white
acetate or a black and purple vegan leather option. The white acetate cover is
crafted by the Italian company Mazzucchelli 1849, promising a unique pattern
for each unit. Its design, especially the camera array that blends into the
back without sticking out, draws comparisons to the OPPO Find X3.
The Edge 50 Pro is designed to resist dust and water with its IP68
rating, has a screen protected by Gorilla Glass (though the version isn't
specified), and is surrounded by an aluminum frame. A unique feature is the
"Moto Fragrance" added to the phone, aiming to enhance the experience
right from the unboxing, adding a distinctive touch.
The screen, maintaining the family tradition, has curved edges and uses
OLED tech enhanced with HDR10 for better visuals. It's now bigger and brighter,
with a 6.7-inch display, 1.2K resolution, and can reach up to 2000 nits in
brightness, all upgrades from the previous model. However, it's worth noting
that the screen's refresh rate has been slightly reduced to 144Hz from the
previous 165Hz.
The Motorola Edge 50 Pro brings a fine blend of tech and style to the table:
- Screen: It comes with a spacious 6.7-inch OLED display, that shows
pictures in 2712 x 1220 resolution. This big screen also wraps slightly at the
edges, has a wide viewing format of 20:9, and lights up brightly with up to
2000 nits. For smooth scrolling and gaming, it refreshes at a rapid 144Hz and
supports rich colors and contrasts through HDR10+.
- Core Hardware: At its heart sits the Qualcomm Snapdragon 7 Gen 3, a
speedy brain aided by a robust Adreno 720 for graphics.
- RAM: You have a choice between a swift 8GB or a larger 12GB of RAM,
both using the fast LPDDR5 standard for multitasking.
- Internal Space: Depending on how much you need to store, pick from
either a 128GB or 256GB model, both speeding along with UFS 3.1.
- Main Camera: Snap vivid, detailed pictures with its 50-megapixel back
camera, equipped with a bright f/1.4 lens, capable of smart focusing and steady
shots, thanks to enhanced autofocus and stabilization.

optical zoom, also benefiting from smart focus and stable imaging.
- Wide and Macro Shooter: A versatile 13-megapixel camera serves double
duty with a wide 120-degree capture range for scenic shots and macro for
close-ups, including autofocus.
- Creativity and Video: Offers rich video and photo modes such as 4K
video capture at thirty frames a second, supported by a dual-LED flash, and
allows for deeper color with 10-bit HDR recording.
- Selfie Camera: The front hosts a powerful 50-megapixel camera for
clear, detailed selfies.
- Staying Connected: It's well-equipped with modern must-haves like USB
Type-C, fast WiFi 6E, dual 5G for swift data, multiple satellite navigation
systems, Bluetooth 5.4, and NFC. Sound is immersive with Dolby Atmos, and it's
ready for anything with dust and water resistance, alongside secure unlocking
features.
- Energy on the Go: Its 4500 mAh battery keeps you powered throughout
the day, recharges super quickly with 120W wired or 50W wireless charging.
- Software: Runs on the latest Android 14, ensuring a smooth and
up-to-date user experience.
Launch and Cost in India: The Motorola Edge 50 Pro, starting with the
Moonlight Pearl color, hits shelves on April 8, with more to follow. It'll set
you back Rs 31,999 ($355) for the lighter memory option, or Rs 35,999 ($399)
for maxed-out storage and RAM. While global release dates aren't specific yet,
it should reach other markets soon after.
