Like
clockwork, the second Tuesday of every month rolls around, and with it comes
Microsoft's regular security updates. This time, they've released patches for
all their operating systems, including Windows, as well as for programs like
Edge and Office.
Microsoft has just finished fixing
60 security problems in their software, including Windows and other programs
they make. None of these problems were super serious, but one was used by
hackers to attack computers.
Here's a breakdown of what they
fixed:
- Windows 10:
42 problems were fixed, most of which were important, but one was only a
little bit of a problem.
- Windows 11: 40 problems were fixed, with similar levels of importance to Windows 10.
These fixes cover a wide range of
issues:
- 17 problems
could have let hackers take control of your computer.
- 2 problems
could have let hackers get around security features.
- 27 problems
could have let hackers run programs on your computer without you knowing.
- 7 problems
could have exposed secret information about your computer.
- 4 problems
could have let hackers pretend to be someone else.
- 3 problems
were other security problems.
There's also good news about a big
problem that started in April. Microsoft has finally fixed the issue that was
making VPN connections stop working. After installing the new updates and
restarting your computer, VPNs should work properly again.
How to Get the Updates
These updates are ready for everyone
through Windows Update. Your computer should download them automatically, and
they'll be installed when you shut down or restart.
But if you don't want to wait or
just want to be sure they're installed correctly, you can also download them
manually. To do that, open the Windows Settings, go to the "Update &
Security" section, and you'll find the new updates there. Just download
them and install them.
